Last
Session; May 11:
The
featured groups were organized by Bill Armstrong and
Brian Richardson. This is the second year for this
“Rent Party”
and it was another huge success. Some of the best
traditional muscians in the area donated their time
to play a fund raiser for South Bay.
People
who left early missed some great music in the last
set. It was three tubas, three trombones, one cornet
and one flugle horn. Thie line up may be strange but
it shure worked for Tin Roof Blues, Joe Avery's Piece
and Dallas Blues.
The
jammers keep getting better all the time. Getting
on the stage with the South Bay Jammers has become
a prestigious accomplishment.

Next
Session, June 22:
The
guest band will be The Golden Gate Rhythm Machine.
This is the first time for this pouplar band to play
for South Bay . This is a small band with a big, swinging,
fun loving sound, produced by some of the best traditional
jazz musicians in the country.
They
are celebrating our 22nd anniversary together this
year. They love to play a wide range of music, from
the standard Dixieland favorites, through the West
Coast originals of Lou Watters and Turk Murphy, to
more recent standards and novelties played in a traditional
style
See
you there.
We
encourage members to bring snacks to share. You don't
have to wait for a birthday or other occasion. The
Elks is no longer serving food. They will have a BBQ
in July but the rest of the time it is up to us

The South Bay Traditional Jazz Society (SBTJS)
is dedicated to the performance, promotion and preservation
of vintage jazz. An afternoon of live music is presented
monthly on the 4th Sunday at the Elk's Lodge on The El
Camino Real in Palo Alto California. This performance
gig and dance starts at 1PM and presents 5 sets of music.
The event presents nationally-known jazz bands, mixed
with jamsets which feature club members who are accomplished
musicians in the traditional jazz idiom. Food and drinks
are available.
The Society is a non-profit organization
based in Silicon Valley, part of the beautiful San Francisco
Bay Area in California. Besides the monthly jazz showcase,
the club provides educational programs to help perpetuate
this great music and educate young and older alike in
the roots of American music from New Orleans. Related
musical genres and styles of music included under the
umbrella of traditional jazz, aka Dixieland music, include
ragtime, blues and Spirituals.
